Flowcrete SA beat off some stiff competition to be awarded the specialist flooring contract at the Ford Manufacturing plant in Port Elizabeth...

After showing the client previous work Flowcrete SA has done at other car manufacturing plants in the area, Ford was convinced that the complete Floorzone solution would be perfect for their requirements.  

The Ford car manufacturing plant has been undergoing extensive renovations at its existing plant as well as making a further 4000m² new extensions to the building. In total 20 000m² of Flowcrete's flooring systems has been installed. However before any installation could begin the existing concrete floor required attention as it was in a very poor condition.

Flowseal EPW was applied over the concrete which is a water based epoxy coating that seals the concrete from future oil and grease absorption. The existing concrete also had a very high moisture content, so in order to prevent future debonding of the flooring system, Hydraseal DPM was installed.

Once the preparation of the substrate was complete the floor was primed with Flowcrete's Flowprime followed by a top coat of Flowshield SL 1000 in some areas, and in the new extension area Flowcoat SF 41. Flowshield SL 1000  is hygienic, hard wearing and abrasion resistant.

Its 1mm gloss floor finish is also attractive and enhances the working environment. Flowcoat SF41 was also used due to its high performance, solvent free and chemical resistant properties.
