In the shopping area of the store a floor was required that would work with Apple Tree’s design scheme to present a welcoming and pleasant shopping environment. At the same time the finish would need to be easy to clean and robust enough to withstand the scuffs, scrapes and stains that a high level of foot traffic, exposure to food produce and heavily laden trolleys would inflict on the floor.
To meet these multiple criteria, 1,250m2 of Mondéco Earth, a seamless resin terrazzo solution was installed in Apple Tree’s public facing areas. Flint and granite aggregates were added into the pomegranate coloured resin system, which after the floor was diamond ground created an eye-catching, glittering effect.
To ensure that the entirety of the supermarket is as hygienic as possible, over 1,000m2 of polyurethane floors with an in-built antibacterial agent was applied in the back of house areas. This included 700m2 of Flowfresh RT (6mm) in light blue and 350m2 of a signal green Flowfresh MF (4mm).
Every system in the HACCP International Certified Flowfresh range has the silver-ion bactericide Polygiene® homogeneously distributed throughout it, which empowers it with the ability to destroy up to 99.9% of bacteria in contact with the floor.
Flowcrete South Africa’s approved applicator had to cope with a lack of lighting and water during the four-week project. A generator and a water tanker were brought to the site so that the flooring installation could be completed.
