To achieve this, the resin-flooring manufacturer supplied 2,800m2 of its seamless resin terrazzo system Mondéco Earth in a wide range of attractive colours, including Snow, Pebble, Moonstone, Sea Green, Spring Green and Coral.
Using this palette a crisp white surface was applied in the main shopping area with organically curving shapes of different sizes and outlines in red, blue, green, cream and turquoise interspersed across the floor in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement. Mondéco Earth Snow was also installed on its own in the adjacent Tops Spar liquor store to provide a decorative, single-tone surface.
A decorative, dappled effect was created across the finish by incorporating granite and flint additives within the resin terrazzo material.
Mondéco Earth was specified for the project over an alternative epoxy solution thanks to its combination of an easy-to-clean finish, an extended life span and an impressive design potential that meant Spar could specify a surface that would tie into its well-established brand identity.
Prior to applying the floor finish, the site’s concrete slab had to be levelled out to SR1 in order to provide a substrate that the resin material would bond to and that wouldn’t disrupt the completed surface.
350m2 of the polyurethane floor coating Flowfresh MF was also applied within SuperSpar’s kitchen and butchery areas as it would maintain a hygienic, seamless surface despite the extreme temperatures, food by-products and cleaning chemicals that it would be exposed to. The Flowfresh range has been HACCP International certified and also includes the antibacterial agent Polygiene®.
